ENGAGE: Outreach in Our Own Backyard & Around the World

Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can. – John Wesley

Jesus said that we are to be light and salt to the world. That’s why in the United Methodist Church we refer to it as “salty service,” because we are going out to serve our communities in the name of Jesus Christ.  The founder of Methodism, John Wesley, wanted “enthused disciples” who were on fire for Christ (hence the symbol of Methodism is the cross and flame!). Living Faith means that we are alive in Christ and that Christ is alive in our world through us. Please join us as we spread the gospel of peace and love through our service. Here are some current outreach and mission opportunities.

Mission & Outreach Opportunities:

SPECIAL COVID-19 Special Outreach: Help Those in Need!

“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’” Matthew 25:35-36

For those of you who are looking for ways to help those who are most impacted by the shutdowns related to COVID-19, Peace has established a Virtual Food Drive through Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida. Visit the Peace UMC page on their website where you can shop online for items to donate, or you can just make a donation. We have set a goal of $500 by Easter, so if you are able please consider donating to this great organization.

If you or someone you know are in need of food assistance, please visit the Second Harvest website or call 407-295-5009.

4M – Making Memories with Monthly Missions: Once a month our youth group coordinates groups from Peace to go out to serve in various organizations and community events within Central Florida. For more information please visit our 4M webpage.

John Young Elementary School Volunteers: We continue to enjoy our relationship with John Young Elementary School (JYE). There is a huge need for one-on-one tutoring and mentoring. The hours and days are flexible, but obviously take place during daytime hours. Do you have an hour to spare once a week? Could you go during lunch hour? Perhaps go to work one hour later? If you are inspired to volunteer, a background check through ADDitions must be completed. Click here for the link to that application. If this sounds like something you are interested in, or if you have any questions, you can contact the church office.

Prayer Chain Ministry: The Prayer Chain is an email distribution group of over 100 persons whose ministry is to pray for others in time of need, loss, illness, praise, and thanksgiving. Prayer requests are received via the Sunday morning worship Connect Cards or reported to the church office and then distributed via email.

Team Peace Cyclists: In 2009 we formed a Peace United Methodist Church bicycle team for the Bike MS Citrus Tour after learning of people in our congregation suffering from Multiple Sclerosis.  MS is an autoimmune disease that causes permanent damage to the nerves in the body and has no known cure. Thank for supporting our 2020 ride – we raised nearly $2000 for MS research.  Watch for our next charity ride coming in the fall of 2020.

Keep an eye on the Peace Calendar page for upcoming dates for these ministries. Contact the Peace Church Office for more information or to get connected.
