Pastor Jim’s COVID-19 Updates & Links

May 22, 2020 Message from Pastor Jim and the Peace Leadership Team:
In an effort to maintain John Wesley’s value of “Do No Harm,” and to always keep safety as our top priority, we will continue to follow the direction from our Bishop and Bishop’s Cabinet to keep our church facility closed to any in-person public gatherings through June 15th. Our Sunday morning online worship service will continue throughout this time as well. Our leadership will communicate any further decisions as they develop in the future. For now, we invite you to join us this Sunday live on Facebook at 10:30 a.m.

Dear Peace Family:

While it is a strange time for our world, we are confident that as a church, we will emerge from this chapter much stronger than before.  We are a resurrection people, and as we continue to pray for all of those deeply impacted by COVID-19, we believe that new life comes through darkness.  We were reminded of that this week when our Church Council met virtually.  We prayerfully discerned the ongoing decisions needing to be made in response to updates and directives provided by the government, health agencies, and our Bishop.

MHere are important updates on the decisions that were made:

    • We will continue worshiping virtually on our live Facebook broadcast through Friday, June 15th.  Our church building will remain closed and we will continue to refrain from hosting any public gatherings during that time.
    • Our Youth mission trips will be unable to happen in late May, early June, but we will host an ‘at-home’ mission trip, scheduled for mid-July.
    • Our Summer Camp programs will not happen this June.
    • Our Vacation Bible School will be tentatively rescheduled for late July, with the program implementing exciting ideas and taking on some new creative twists.

Our Church Council began developing a strategy for how we will reopen our church in preparation for when that time comes.  We are excited to bring you updates on what that will look like in the near future.  In the meantime, here are some current signs of new life:

    • We celebrate Emma Harmon as our new Director of Student Ministry
    • While we remain in uncertain financial times, we are grateful for your ongoing support and celebrate that we can continue paying our staff through funding received from the Small Business Administration’s Payroll Protection Plan.
    • We have begun much needed work within our sanctuary as we update our tech booth, reposition cabling and instruments, construct additional chancel space and minimize clutter within the overall room.  All of the materials have been funded outside of our operating budget through specified financial gifts, and wonderful volunteers within our church family are completing the work.
    • Our Youth Ministry will host their first-ever ‘at home’ mission trip, where they will have all of the components of a regular trip, but all of the work will consist of projects within our church facility.  A remodeled and updated Youth Room will be the centerpiece, as they create a space that will be appealing and functional for many across generational lines.

We are going through many challenges, all in different ways.  But as a resurrection people, we have hope that new life is happening; that a new day continues to dawn.  How exciting will it be when we can gather in person once more as together we continue to Come Find Peace!

Grace and peace,

Pastor Jim
